4 – 5 Basketball
Rules
1. The size of the playing area is full court.
2. The height of the basket will be approximately eight feet.
3. Each child must play at least one
quarter per game. No player will be allowed to play all four quarters unless the team has less than seven players for the
game. Player substitutions may only occur between quarters.
4. The size of the basketball is a 27.25 inch or junior size.
5. The game can be played four on four any team with less then four
player has to forfeit. Each team will have a maximum of eight players on their roster.
6. Anymore than eight players on a roster must be approved by league
coordinator and head coach. If at least four players are not present by 10 minutes before game starts, after game starts the
team automatically forfeits. Each child must play at least half of every game.
7. The game will consist of four, six minute quarters with a running
clock except for timeouts. There will be two, thirty second timeouts per team per half. Half-time will last two minutes with
one minute between quarters.

The provided IYS jersey must be worn at all times. No exceptions!
9. A jump ball will start every game.
10. One coach from each team may stand on the sideline during play to instruct players.
Coaches are not allowed on the court during play.
11. There will be no lane violations
called.

Defense is man to man only, no zone or double-teaming. Stealing of the ball while controlled by offensive player is not allowed.
No slapping or reaching in at the ball.
13. Possession will alternate each quarter, jump-ball, or double foul.
14. Traveling is leniently called; dribbling must be emphasized.
15. After each basket the opposing team will then inbound the ball from their end line.
16. If the ball goes out of bounds
the opposing team will inbound the ball from that spot.
17. There is to be a free inbound pass from the top of the key to the free throw line.
Defense must stay behind the free throw line for all inbound passes.
18. If a foul is called, there will be a change of possession (NO
FREE THROWS).
